Agriculture

Rajasthan is famously known for its large land area. This and its diverse agro-climatic conditions allows the cultivation of a variety of crops. Agriculture and its allied sectors play a significant role in the state’s economy, contributing nearly 26% of the state’s total GSDP in 2019-20. Around 62% of the working population depend on agriculture for their livelihood, making it an integral part of their livelihood.

Cement

Rajasthan stands 2nd in the country in cement production after Andhra Pradesh. The state has huge reserves of cement-grade and Steel-Making -Shop (SMS) grade limestone. Rajasthan has about a 26% share in the proven limestone reserves in the country. Home to 24 major cement plants produces 55 million tonnes per annum (MTPA) of cement.

Tourism

Tourism has been one of the biggest revenue generators for the state for since long. Owing to its rich and varied topography, vibrant culture, and captivating festivities, the State of Rajasthan offers immense tourism delights to the visitors in the State. Starting from neighbouring states to the far-flung countries throng the state at different times, especially during the cooler periods beginning from November to February.

Ceramics

Rajasthan is an Emerging Investment Destination for the Ceramic and Glass Sector. It accounts for 90% of India’s Marble, slate and sandstone production and has a monopoly in other ceramic materials. Marble Crafts of Rajasthan is also a very famous handicraft item; this craft produces marble carved wall hangings, sculptures, statues, furniture, flower vases, fireplaces, statues, etc.

Mining and Minerals

Rajasthan is endowed with great natural attributes, be it the Aravalli mountain ranges or the vast Thar Desert. Another feature that makes Rajasthan unique is its rich treasure of minerals, blessed with 79 varieties. It is virtually nature’s museum housing both metallic and non-metallic minerals, including beautiful building stones. It has a vantage position in having significant radioactive minerals, lignite, petroleum, and natural gas.

Rajasthan is the largest producer of handicraft items in India. The art and craft of Rajasthan are known all around the world. Tourists visiting India always desire to take back souvenirs of Rajasthani handicrafts. Many bright coloured and patterned crafts of the state are used to adorn the household as interior decoration. Whereas other crafts produce utility products of daily use, garments, accessories, and miscellaneous items.

Auto & Auto Components

Rajasthan has many key factors which make it a favourite destination for the Automobile sector to set up their production. Due to its location and connectivity, companies can access any part of the country with ease. The government’s policies and the industrial land also play an essential role in attracting the industries. Alwar and Jaipur districts are close to major auto production hubs of the country, such as Noida (Uttar Pradesh), Gurgaon and Dharuhera (Haryana) advantages setting up auto and auto ancillary units. Over 100 units are currently functional in Bhiwandi, Neemrana, Pathredi in Alwar district, and Rajasthan; these are the three main auto clusters in Rajasthan. Many of the well-known brands in the Automobile industry have plants set up in Rajasthan. Some of them are Honda, Ashok Leyland, Hero Motocorp, JCB and others. As the names suggest, Rajasthan has become a hub for vehicle plants in India.

Policies & Ease Of Doing Business

The economic development of the state is mainly dependent on the contribution of industries. The state is a land of rich heritage, art, culture and abundant natural resources. The 27.8% contribution of industries in Rajasthan’s economy is growing continuously. The policies are developed with a view of promoting balanced, sustainable and eco-friendly industrial development. They are also creating employment opportunities, developing infrastructure and promoting regional industrialisation. All the policies encourage businesses to invest in Rajasthan and emerge as the most preferred investment destination in India.

There are various policies for every section of the industry. From MSME Act for budding enterprises to Tourism Policy, all targeted to improve the engagement and development of the state. Some major proposals are fostering entrepreneurship and innovation, strengthening sectors like Textile, Agro Food Processing, Auto Components, Mines & Minerals, and Service Sector. These policies also offer various fiscal incentives to enterprises and exemption from permissions and inspections for a certain period, which helps them greatly to set up the industry.

To enhance the convenience of doing business in various states in India, the Department for Promotion of Industry and Internal Trade (DPIIT) initiated a study to assess States on reform parameters to ease of doing business. The document highlights promising practices in various areas that require institutionalized for States, DPIIT conducts a ranking of implementation of reforms per annum.

Rajasthan has been consistently ranked amongst the TOP 10 states in India by DPIIT & World Bank EoDB ranking since 2015. In the year, 2019 Rajasthan ranked 8th position among other states in India and has been recognized in the 'Aspirers' category.
