Rajasthan is one of the most popular tourist destinations in India for both domestic and international tourists. In 2019, 55 million domestic tourists and 1.6 million foreign tourists visiting the state. Rajasthan attracts tourists for its historical forts, palaces, art and culture with its slogan "Padharo mhare desh'.
Rajasthan has to offer a wide variety of tourism options. These unique experiences are second to none. From its well known Heritage Sites like mahals and forts to Serene Lakes of Udaipur, the state has a lot to offer in the name of destinations. It has a total of 8 UNESCO heritage sites that provide huge tourist attractions.
The Rajasthan Tourism Unit Policy, 2015 primarily addresses issues relating to the time-bound conversion of land for tourism units, including new hotels and heritage hotels, time-bound approval of building plans, the grant of Patta to heritage hotels, allotment of land for tourism units on DLC (District Level Committee) rates, the applicability of Rajasthan Investment Promotion Scheme, 2014 (RIPS-2014) for tourism units and smooth and speedy implementation of the provisions of related departments like Revenue, Urban Development and Housing (UDH) & Local Self Government (LSG), Panchayati Raj, etc. It is expected that this Policy will strengthen the existing infrastructure, will foster infrastructure development, income & employment generation and increase the much-needed availability of hotel rooms for tourists. By allowing Heritage Hotels in rural Abadi / Panchayat areas, Rural Tourism is likely to increase manifold.
The Ranthambore National Park is one of the best wildlife sanctuaries in the country. The local fairs, festivals and various festivals and art forms are extraordinary experiences.
